Weight and Balance and Aircraft Performance

The Federal Aviation Administration says pilots are required to become familiar with all aspects of their flight before they take off.

Now, there’s an app for that.

Here’s a handy calculator that pulls some of the more important details together in one place. It’s called a Takeoff Data Calculator, and it helps size up the weight and balance, analyze how much fuel you should take on (by calculating your Zero-fuel Weight first), and then taking a look at the air up there to see what you might face after takeoff and on landing.

It is no substitute for the total pilot responsibilities outlined in 14 CFR 91.103. Pilots are required to obtain and study weather,  runway conditions and lengths,  how the plane will perform, airspace status and restrictions,  as well as what the capabilities and limitations will be on the flight.

But, as they say, use all available resources.
